- Lack of sleep due to anxiety. Ever wondered why at times you have sleepless nights? It’s probably lack of glucose at night and your brain keeps releasing stress hormones.
- Waking up at night and not able to go back immediately to sleep. The adrenals, again due to the hormones, are too active.
- You store more fats and gain weight due to elevated cortisol hormones which give you more stress. Good sleep is key to fat metabolism and cell repairs and regeneration. Imagine if each night you get high levels of cortisol.
That’s why you gain weight even if you diet or exercise. In a sense, your brain has to be “less busy” at sleeping time, and not releasing stress hormones unnecessarily, stressing you out during sleep and accumulating fat in your body. This means your liver should have enough glucose at night.
